I began my journey at Sunshine as a Direct Support Professional, serving for a year before stepping into an internship with the Human Resources team. My time as a DSP shaped how I view this work—it taught me compassion, patience, and the importance of showing up for people every single day.
I graduated from Emmanuel Christian and later from the University of Toledo College of Business. I’ve always been a hard worker, taking classes during the day and working at night, determined to build a future for myself and my family. My parents have watched me walk across two graduation stages, and being a role model for my younger relatives—means everything to me.
I’m excited about my generation stepping into meaningful roles like this, helping shape the future workforce of Sunshine. “It’s been exciting to become professional in this field and answer questions, and I feel prepared.” Now in HR, my goal is to make sure new staff feel supported from the start and understand the heart behind this mission. I want to make sure that staff feel comfortable. There’s a reason why our training is two weeks. I’m going to be there for them every step of the way.”
Young, eager to learn, and motivated to make an impact, I look forward to connecting with applicants who truly want to do this work—and helping them find their place here at Sunshine.

In 1976, I came to Sunshine at the age of 15 to volunteer for the summer and I fell in love with the individuals. Sunshine was an inspiration to me as I had much love to give. Believing this was my calling, I began part-time work at age 16 and then was hired on full-time after graduating high school.
Sunshine is an integral part of my family life as I met my husband, David, through my sister-in-law who was a Sunshine nurse. David worked here for five years and our daughters have volunteered over the years. I have “grown up” with many of the individuals. I am proud to be associated with Sunshine.
