The Sunshine Communities Aktion Club is a service club in Northwest Ohio where adults with developmental disabilities lead volunteer projects and community service initiatives.
When people of all abilities are included in leadership and service, communities grow stronger and more connected. At Sunshine Communities in Northwest Ohio, the Aktion Club gives adults with developmental disabilities the opportunity to lead, volunteer, and make a meaningful impact.
Aktion Club, sponsored by Kiwanis International, is the only service club in the world designed specifically for adults with disabilities. Sunshine Communities hosts the first Aktion Club in Ohio operated by a full-service developmental disability provider, creating opportunities for members to build leadership skills, work as a team, and serve their community.
Today, 34 members of the Sunshine Communities Aktion Club take pride in organizing service projects that support others, including:

• Packing backpacks with school supplies for local students in Northwest Ohio
• Hosting community fundraisers such as lemonade stands and walking taco sales
• Donating blankets to Joy for Jill, a Northwest Ohio nonprofit
• Creating bracelets to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
Sponsored locally by Oak Openings Kiwanis, the Sunshine Communities Aktion Club helps adults with developmental disabilities grow confidence, develop friendships, and demonstrate the power of inclusion through service.
