For individuals with developmental disabilities, water isn’t just soothing—it’s transformative. Sunshine Communities’ therapeutic pool has provided healing, independence, and joy since 1991. Now, it needs major renovations—and your support can bring it back.
The pool features 92° heated water, a chair lift, and shallow platforms that make it accessible for all. It hosts arthritis classes, open swims, aquatic therapy, summer camps, and more. But after decades of use, the systems need significant updates to remain safe and functional.
That’s why McGivern Jewelers is offering a $100,000 matching gift this August. Every donation will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $100,000—bringing us closer to the $400,000 goal to reopen this beloved community resource.
Families have already felt the impact.
“The pool helps promote communication, build swimming skills, and encourage regular exercise,” said Shawn Norman, a staff member at Sunshine Communities.
“Khalil, Michael, and Brandon swam regularly and loved their time in the water,” said Shawn Norman.
“For them—and so many others—the pool strengthened muscles, increased stamina, and offered a sense of freedom that’s hard to find elsewhere.”
Marvene Whitmore shared, “My son Jonathan calls the pool his happy place. It allows him to move without pain, build confidence, and make friends. We’ve lost a place to stay active without it.”
This isn’t just about water—it’s about dignity, movement, and hope.
