Sunshine Studios' team of talented artists with developmental disabilities is truly a group of many talents. Each week, they volunteer at SAME Café Toledo, a donation-based nonprofit restaurant that serves healthy food to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay, located inside the Toledo Lucas County Public Library’s Main Library in downtown Toledo. Their contributions extend beyond the kitchen; they play a vital role in building community connections.
One of our team members, Michael Ann looks forward to Thursdays when she heads to the café to roll silverware and bake fresh cookies for the café's patrons. While she enjoys preparing the silverware, she shared with local media that her favorite part is interacting with new people. The connections she makes each week, including seeing the staff at SAME Café and the guests who dine there, are highlights for her. Working outside of creating art at the studios adds to her sense of responsibility.
Michael Ann works in a setting where she is counted on, where her contributions make a difference, and where she is part of something bigger than herself.
